Send your customer a link they can open on any phone. The invoice travels inside the link itself, so nothing is uploaded anywhere. It includes everything on the invoice, payment details too, so only send it to your customer.

What to put on an invoice
If you are VAT registered, GOV.UK says your invoice must include your VAT number and show the VAT separately. It is also standard practice to include:
- a unique invoice number and the invoice date
- your business name and address, and your customer's name and address
- a clear description of the work or goods, with quantities and prices
- the total to pay, the payment due date, and how to pay you
If you are not VAT registered, do not charge VAT. Use the VAT calculator to work out figures, and if you work under the Construction Industry Scheme see the CIS calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Is this invoice template really free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. To save a PDF, choose "Save as PDF" as the printer in the print window.
Do I have to charge VAT on my invoice?
Only if you are VAT registered. You must register if your taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in a rolling 12 months, and you can register voluntarily below that. See GOV.UK: Register for VAT.
Can I use this for CIS work?
You can invoice for the full amount here. The contractor then makes the CIS deduction from the payment. Use the CIS calculator to see what you will receive.
Do I need a quote before an invoice?
No, but a written quote avoids disputes about price. You can make one free with the QuoteTheJob quote builder.
